Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20 1964. She is an American politician. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general for California between 2011 and 2017 and also as a United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. In 2010, Harris was elected Attorney General of California. She was reelected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and cannabis legalization, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings has earned her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
